Makeup Dos and Don’ts

I have made many makeup blunders over the years so here are a few tips to avoid any errors!
PRIMER: Primer improves application of foundation and eyeshadow, ensuring it doesn’t fade and prevents creasing. Catrice® Prime and Fine (only €4.95 at Whelehans) is brilliant for prolonging foundation.
FOUNDATION: Match your foundation to your chest. If you go too light your face appears stark, too dark and caked, Pop into Whelehans and we will match you with the perfect foundation!
BROWS: Brows frame the face. Use a light hand feathering motion; this works much better than one stroke. Elizabeth Arden’s® brow pencils (€ 22.00 at Whelehans) make achieving a soft brow easy.
EYESHADOW: Start with a blending brush in the crease and use a light transition shade, building up the colour. Neutral shades are best to start with if unsure. Use a nude pencil along the water line to open the eyes then softly smoke out the lower lash line with neutral browns. Too much black liner can drag your eye down.
WINGED LINER: An area many find tricky! Drawing your wing outwards instead of up is easier to achieve. Build up the line to create a thicker wing. Start small and you can’t go wrong.
BLUSH & HIGHLIGHT: Blush isn’t all about the apples of our cheeks, I recommend blending it back a little and go with a soft colour instead of an intense bright colour. Avoid applying highlighter to the forehead, chin, and apples of your cheeks unless you want to look like a disco ball! Opt for the high points of the cheek bones. W7® Let’s Glow! CONTOUR: Less is more. Use a cool toned bronzer and hold off on the shimmer.
