Christmas Party Looks
Posted by Trish Wallace on
It’s officially Christmas and that means Christmas Party Time! It is the perfect time of year to really go all out, and try out a stunning glittery smoky eye or a show stopping red lip.
This year’s Elizabeth Arden Blockbuster is an absolute must for all makeup lovers. Bright Lights, Big City collection is my favourite to date, with a fab range of colours and products to get you through this festive season from earthy neutral and gold shadows to smoky purples and sultry greys, not to mention their award winning Grand Entrance Mascara which was a favourite on the red carpet at this year’s Oscars. This year, Elizabeth Arden have also added a gorgeous blush and highlighter palette for dewy, radiant skin along with 2 amazing “out of your comfort zone” glosses in a daring purple and sparkling gold.
Elizabeth Arden’s Blockbuster is available at Whelehans Pharmacy for just €70.00 when you spend over €45.00 on Elizabeth Arden, but hurry as stocks are limited!

Illuminated Skin for Christmas
Posted by Trish Wallace on
Coming into winter, our skin takes a battering from the elements resulting in dry, dehydrated and dull looking skin. I have come up with an incredible skin routine to help you scuff off the flakiness and brighten and tone your skin just in time for Christmas!
First of all, stay clear of the face wipes / baby wipes and invest in a skin type appropriate cleanser and toner. After your skin is thoroughly cleansed, I would strongly encourage you to try out Elizabeth Arden’s Superstart Skin Booster. It is the only product of its kind on the market, and is, in a nut shell, a probiotic for your skin. It works holistically to restore the healthy look of your skin’s essential surface layer, fortifying its natural ability to renew and repair.
Next, you should look for a “brightening” serum. I love Elizabeth Arden’s Illuminating Brightening Day serum because it has an encapsulated form of niacinamide combined with Vitamin C and their own mix complex which are proven to brighten skin, reduce pigmentation and support our skin’s collagen and elastin levels.
At night time, I would opt for a “glycolic” type product after you have removed your makeup. Be careful you don’t use too much though, as it can irritate your skin if you use too much! Elizabeth Arden’s Skin Illuminating Re-texturizing pads are great because you only need to use one single pad for your whole face and literally glide it once over the skin (avoiding the eyes obviously) and instantly it will lift off the surface layers of dead skin, revealing brighter skin.
For an added bonus, I’d try out Elizabeth Arden’s skin illuminating Night Capsules. They work with the original Ceramide Capsules, but deliver an intense supply of Mix Concentrate, Vitamin C and Niacinamide while you sleep!

Eye Skincare
Posted by Ann McNelis on
The first visible signs of aging occur around the delicate eye area. This is because the skin is very thin in this area making it easier for free radical damage from the sun’s UV rays, pollution and the environment to penetrate the skin.
Unfortunately fine lines around the corner of the eye can never be fully prevented; however you can prevent these lines from developing into deep wrinkles if you have a good skincare routine. It is very important that you use an eye cream which contains a Sun Protection Factor (SPF); this will help protect the delicate area from the visible effects of environmental damage including fine lines, dryness, crow’s feet and loss of firmness.
It is not suitable to use the same moisturiser for the eye area as you do on your face; this is because face moisturisers can be too rich for the skin around the eye and can cause milia (small white heads) which can be difficult to remove.
Puffy eyes and dark circles
Dark circles under and around the eyes can be caused by a number of factors:
- Fatigue and lack of sleep - A lack of sleep can cause paleness of the skin which allows the blood flow underneath the skin to appear more visible and darker.
- Exposure to the sun - this can cause a higher than normal level of skin pigmentation (melanin) under the eyes.
- Heredity - If you have dark circles, then there is a good chance that others in the family have them also. Like Varicose Veins, dark circles are usually an inherited trait!
- Puffy eyes can sometimes be caused by fluid collecting around the eye area (from allergies or sinus problems). Try adding an extra pillow under your head at bedtime, this will prevent a fluid build-up!

Benefits of waxing
Posted by Aisling Smith on
Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal that removes the hairs from the root. Depending where the client is in their growth cycle, body Waxing can last up to 4-6 weeks and facial Waxing 2-3 weeks.
When waxing is carried out regularly, the hair will become softer and sparser. I find Waxing much more beneficial than other hair removal methods for a number of reasons. It has much less maintenance as the areas only need treatment every 4-6 weeks whereas shaving for example, needs to be carried out much more regularly.
Shaving is one of the main reasons people suffer with ingrown hairs because it does not remove the hair from the root; it is easy for it to get trapped under the skin.
With other hair removal methods, the hair tends to grow back darker and a lot coarser but when waxed, the hair grows back much more fine.
Two types of Waxing suitable for hair removal are hot wax and strip wax. Strip wax or 'soft wax' is applied thinly over the skin and is removed using a paper or cloth strip. This type of wax is used on areas such as the legs. Hot wax or 'hard wax' is thicker than strip wax. It is applied liberally to the area and when it cools can be peeled away. This type of wax is used on sensitive areas such as the face.
If getting a Waxing treatment, I recommend exfoliating the areas to be treated at least 24 hours prior to appointment. This will remove dead skin cells and allow wax to work better and make the treatment more comfortable for you.
Pain free waxing
Whelehans offer a pain free waxing product called Waxperts®. Our clients love how easy and painless it is. We are now getting clients who never waxed because of their previous fear of the “pain” of waxing . Every Wednesday we offer 10% off all waxing treatments.
