Does Bad Posture Exist?

Posted by Kevin Coneely on

I think we’ve all heard it at some time in our life, “sit up straight”, “keep your shoulders back”, “stop slouching”. Even saying the word “posture” can cause a physical reaction of straightening our back and make us conscious of what body position we are in. Where did this come from and why do some of us have a fixation on posture causing harm?  We all seem to recognise and know what bad posture looks like but what does good posture look like? Fact or Fiction when it comes to lower back pain?

Posted by Kevin Coneely on

Many of us at some point will experience lower back pain. The statistics are quite sobering with 80% of people suffering a bout of back pain at some point in their lives. This indicates that back pain is actually very common and normal. What is not normal however is being unable to recover from your back pain. Acute back pain is mostly the result of strains and sprains and as a result the prognosis is very encouraging with many people recovering fully within the first three months. Why a small majority of back pain sufferers fail to recover within this...
