Cholesterol Check
People with other risk factors for heart disease and cholesterol (as discussed last week) such as family history, obesity and high blood pressure (etc.) should get their cholesterol checked regularly.
It is recommended that you have a total blood cholesterol level of less than 5.2mmol/litre, and an LDL cholesterol level of under 3.37mmol/litre.
We can check your total cholesterol for you with a simple blood test in our private consultation suite in the pharmacy.
Once you know your number - we can offer advice on how best to manage and improve your cholesterol numbers.
Before the test is done, you may be asked not to eat for 12 hours (usually including night time when you are asleep). This ensures that all food is completely digested and will not affect the outcome of the test.
