| European Health
Insurance Card
The European Health Insurance Card or EHIC
was introduced in 2004 across the European Union. It allows
Irish residents to access health services in any EU country
and in Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, if
they become ill or injured while on a temporary stay in
that country.
All residents of the Republic of Ireland are
entitled to the card for free.
To obtain healthcare with the card,
go to the nearest public system doctor, public hospital,
or other public treatment centre and present your card.
Private healthcare is not covered by the card. The card
is valid for 5 years.
You can obtain a form for the card in
Whelehans Pharmacy.
